What can a Montenegrin prince and a Turkish general have in common? How can they become friends in the midst of a war? These are some of the questions that Momo Kapor, a Serbian writer and artist, tries to answer in his novel Zelena Coja Montenegra (The Green Feather of Montenegro). The book is based on the true story of Prince Nikola I PetroviÄ, the ruler of Montenegro, and Osman Pasha SarhoÅ, a Turkish general who was captured by the Montenegrins in the battle of VuÄji Do in 1876. The book is not only a historical novel, but also a personal memoir, a tribute to friendship, and a celebration of the Balkan culture and history.
